There will be an annular solar eclipse on October 14, 2023, which is this weekend. This is an important event as the next annular eclipse will not be until 2044. Annular means “Ring-shaped”, but in this context it refers to the “Ring of Fire” that will be around the moon. During an annular eclipse, the moon is at its furthest from the Earth, or near that location. That way, the moon appears smaller, which creates a “Ring of Fire”, or a thin ring of light around it. During a Total Solar Eclipse, the moon is closer than during the annular eclipse, so it covers the sun completely. The next total eclipse will be in April of 2024.
WARNING: NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN WITHOUT PROPER SOLAR FILTERS MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT PURPOSE.
You should not use solar-glasses rated filters for telescopes or binoculars, or cameras since they magnify and focus the light on a small area, which can damage your eyes if you are looking through a telescope or binoculars, or damage the camera matrix (sensor). That will cause photos to look nothing near like they are supposed to from then on, and it might melt some parts inside the camera. You can Google images of damaged camera sensors damaged by the sun.
