Prom Plus is a place for students to go after school dances and parties, before Prom Plus was established, high school students would go to potentially unsafe places to avoid going home. For our Rosemont students, Prom Plus is now partnering with Firehouse to provide tutoring, activities, and snacks on Wednesdays before school, and Thursdays after school. They also do year-round events, like the dine-out fundraiser on January 25th, and Prom Plus meetings some Thursdays.
Prom Plus first started because a CV High Schooler was shot in a hotel after prom in 1988. Prom Plus has been working since to make a safe, and unforgettable prom experience. “The community helped and volunteered a lot,” says Ms. Johnson, a Prom Plus board member, but many volunteers dropped off after COVID. Ms. Johnson stresses that they need new leadership to keep Prom Plus alive. They have many volunteer positions for adults and high schoolers available, ranging from monthly to one-time volunteering.
Prom Plus goes further than hosting a place to go after prom, they host many events and are vital to the Glendale community. Prom Plus is dedicated to keeping our community safe and happy.
For those looking to get involved you can contact [email protected], and go to the board meetings at the Firehouse, 5:30pm some Thursdays, kids are welcome.
