The Rosemont Middle School Trivia Tournament started on Tuesday, March 5. In this tournament, RMS students who wished to participate formed teams of three and competed against each other in fierce trivia competitions in the form of a Kahoot (the form to participate was posted in the grade-level Google Classrooms). This tournament, hosted by WEB, took place in multiple WEB teachers’ rooms. The teachers hosting the tournament (all WEB teachers) were Mr. Andreas (1201), Ms. Khatch (1202), Mr. Bedrousi (1206), Ms. Chuang (1203), and Ms. Giraco (1208). Each team was assigned to a room to compete in. Some teams were: Chris loves Chicken, Yellow fellows, The Trees, E.M.M, Karl-Anthony Towns, Aperndenz, Wikipedia, 3-Piece Chicken Nuggets, Potato Nerds, Big Brain Time, the Leprechauns, and more.
Winners joined in on cutthroat competition against other winners for three whole days, until eventually, there were only six teams left: Wikipedia, Aperdenz, Karl-Anthony Towns, the Trees, 3-Piece Chicken Nuggets, and E.M.M. After the last day of competition, the ultimate winner of the tournament and the In-N-Out reward was team, ‘The Trees’. Second and Third Place respectively went to teams ‘Aperdenz’ and ‘3-Piece Chicken Nuggets’. Congratulations!
“The tournament was a great success! I loved seeing our Spartans flex their trivia muscles! The tournament brought a new group of kids to the WEB games. It was nice to see some students who haven’t participated in the past. Our games are for EVERYONE!” says Ms. Khatch, one of the WEB leaders and also the ASB teacher. “I think the tournament was amazing and one of the best ones we’ve hosted this year. We had more students participate in this tournament than any of the other ones so far,” adds Ms. McMillin, WEB team coordinator. “I think it gave students who might not choose to participate in a more physical activity like Spartan Ball, an opportunity to participate in a fun and competitive activity at lunch….and a chance to win In-N-Out!”
However, both Ms. McMillin and Ms. Khatch agreed that the tournament could be improved a bit. “I think we need to double-check our facts before the tournament, but overall, it was great,” says Ms. Khatch. Because there was a little mix-up of facts during the final round of the tournament, this would be a great improvement to have in the future. “I would love to find a way for more kids to come watch the fun, but it was hard to find a space large enough with the right equipment to host a Kahoot game. Maybe next time we could try to use the cafeteria,” suggests Ms. McMillin. Overall, it was a great and inclusive tournament, and it was also a great success!
