On Wednesday, February 19, Rosemont Middle School’s flag football team played against Toll Middle School on the upper field. Fans lined up on the sidelines to watch the Rosemont Spartans dominate the Titans and defeat them with a final score of 19-0.
The game’s first quarter contained most of the action in the game. Rosemont’s offense and defense both performed exceptionally, giving them a large lead over Toll.
On Rosemont’s first possession, their first few plays only yielded a few yards, until #24 Hayden Kim, received a pass from quarterback Trevor Mulcahey. The play action was successful, and Kim ran through the Toll defense for a touchdown.
After, Toll turned over on downs, and Rosemont once again obtained the ball. Hayden Kim recorded many rushing yards and Rosemont once again capitalized on another play action. This time #6 Kody Seo, received the ball and ran it into the endzone. The extra point was converted on a handoff to Marcus Yang.
Toll’s offense still could not get anywhere, and they were forced to punt the ball, giving the dangerous Spartan offense a chance to score again. Connor Woods made a great catch and ran the ball all the way down to the one, where his flags fell off. It was mistakenly interpreted by the referee as a flag pull, and Rosemont got the ball at the one yard line.
On the following play, running back, #25 Jayden Chae scored the touchdown off a handoff. The extra-point attempt failed.
The halftime and fulltime score was 19-0, since no points were scored in the second half. Despite the lack of action in the second half, it is important to note that Rosemont’s defense held strong throughout the entire game, and many of Toll’s plays were only for a few or negative yards.
With this game over, Rosemont looks forward to their away game at Roosevelt and keeping their hopes for an undefeated season alive.
