The Spartan Ball Tournament occurred in the RMS gym from Monday, Jan. 27, to Friday, Jan. 31. Many students signed up for this tournament in their grade-level Google classrooms, creating teams of three boys and three girls each. Mr. Bedrousi, along with other WEB teachers, ran the tournament. Some teams were the LiAngelo Ball, RMS Asians, Coca-Cola, Jimbo, and more. The teams competed fiercely against each other, creating an entertaining and exciting vibe for the many students who came to watch.
This year’s tournament has been a fun game for the competitors. In this tournament, two teams come up every turn, throwing dodgeballs at one another, aiming to get a competitor out of every hit. Whichever team had the least players out at the end of the time won. There was a three-minute time limit for each game. If a team lost, then they were eliminated from the tournament. Eventually, there were only two teams left: Coca-Cola and LiAngelo Ball. The match between them would determine the final winner. The final winner was LiAngelo Ball, a team consisting of Anthony Mirzakhanian, Darren Stephen, Chris Koshkerian, Nicole Hartunian, Chloe Sarkisian, and Liana Torosian, won the In-N-Out prize.
When interviewed, Mr. Bedrousi, an eighth-grade science teacher, said, “I think the tournament went perfectly, it is one of the tournaments students are very excited to be part of and I think it went really well.” There was also a slight change of requirements in this year’s tournament. A rule was placed this year that said there must be three girls and three boys for each team. When asked why this rule was implemented, Mr. Bedrousi replied, “We tried to make it as fair as possible and to give everybody a chance to partake in the games even if they were not very sure of their skills.” Overall, the tournament was a success according to the WEB teachers, even though there were some changes and improvements since last year, such as having three girls and three boys in the team instead of having the problem of having only boys in the team. For any seventh graders who did not get to play this year, there is another chance to sign up next year at around this time!
