On Wednesday, Feb. 27, Rosemont’s fifth spirit assembly took place at the end of the day in the amphitheater. The spirit assembly began with a points total of 75-85, in favor of eighth grade. It finished with a total of 108-98, in favor of seventh grade.
The spirit assembly kicked off with the customary wheel spin, where a seventh grader managed to land their spin on the five CFE points for their grade level—lowering eighth grade’s lead down to five points. Then, cheer did their performance.
The first game was called Hungry Hungry Hippos. Three contestants from each grade level took turns lying down on an oversized skateboard, with a bucket in their hands. The two other contestants worked to push the skateboard into a marked circle and drag them back with a rope. Inside the designated circle, there were three kinds of balls: soccer balls, worth three points, volleyballs, worth two points, and wiffle balls, worth one point. As the game progressed, it was clear that the seventh grade team were miles ahead of the eighth graders. By the end, the seventh graders had blown out the eighth graders and easily took the five points. This was followed by the class cheers, which were both extremely loud.
The second game is called Worm Dig. It required five contestants from each grade level. The goal of the game was for each individual contestant to fish out three gummy worms from a plate filled with whipped cream, and spit them out into a separate bucket. After one gets all the gummy worms, they must run back and tag their teammate, who can then go and get their gummy worms. The game was back and forth, with seventh leading sometimes, and eighth leading at others. It came down to the final steps, where the final seventh grade participant managed to beat out the eighth grader by a step. Seventh grade once again took the five points.
Lastly, Ms. Khatch tallied up the points to reveal who had the lead. Sportsmanship: Seventh grade got four points, eighth grade got three. Class cheer: Five points seventh, three eighth grade. Class colors: Four points seventh, three points eighth grade. Sitting down first: Five points seventh grade, four points eighth. In addition, seventh grade got ten points for winning the games and five for the wheel spin. The Fifth Spirit Assembly was completely swept by the seventh graders, and they now lead by ten points, 108-98. The next spirit assembly will be sometime in the near future. Remember to wear your class colors!
