During April, Rosemont has celebrated Armenian Heritage Month. Seeing as almost one third of the students here are Armenian and that there are more students in Glendale Unified District than all the other school districts in the entire country, it only sounds fitting that Rosemont does something to celebrate Armenians. Rosemont had students read short memos about famous Armenians during the morning announcements in first period.
One history 7th grade teacher, Mr. Grant, put on a documentary about the Armenian Genocide and how and why it happened as well as additional details about the horror done to the Armenians.
According to the Onewaytour website, some famous Armenians are Komitas, a famous composer, Ivan Aivazovsky, a painter, and Alexander Tamanyan, an architect. Komitas recorded more than 3,000 pieces of folk music, but was killed during the Armenian Genocide. Aivazovsky was a seascape painter and painted more than 6,000 pieces of art. His works are in world famous museums, such as the National Gallery of Armenia and Saryan House-Museum. Alexander Tamanyan started the creation of Armenia’s 12th capital and was awarded many awards for his architectural genius.
