Soon, Rosemont Students will have 18 days off from waking up early, going to school, and doing homework. Here are some enjoyable activities to do with family or friends from Dec. 20-Jan 6.
To begin with, bake some holiday-themed cookies. Cut or mold them into shapes such as presents, candy canes, Christmas trees, reindeer, or even snowmen. Decorate them with frosting, sprinkles, or other toppings. Finally, enjoy a delicious treat.
Another exciting activity could be a movie marathon. Whip up a quick cup of hot chocolate and get all warm around the fireplace. Maybe grab a blanket or even invite some friends, and spend the day watching innumerable Christmas movies. Some Christmas classics are Elf, Home Alone, and The Grinch.
Before the holidays arrive, set up a gift exchange with family or friends. Generally, everyone writes their name down on a piece of paper, then fold up the papers and put them in a hat or bowl. Next everyone reaches in and chooses a paper. Later, buy a gift for whoever’s name was pulled. On Christmas day everyone’s Secret Santa is revealed when gifts get handed out.
Celebrating the “festival of lights” is a Jewish holiday by lighting a candle each day until eight candles are lit. This is a celebration of the freedom of religion and the power of faith. Other traditions include eating latkes, (potato pancakes) playing the game of dreidel, and exchanging gifts.
Taking a trip to the mountains and staying in a cabin is also a fun activity. Invite some friends or go with family. Build snowmen, ski, and even have a snowball fight.
Rosemont student Claire Kamarzarian says her favorite activity to do during Christmas is, “Driving down Christmas Tree Lane,” I asked Claire to explain further. “Christmas Tree Lane is a neighborhood in Altadena where all the neighbors overly decorate their front lawns.” She added, “Everyone goes all out and they have food stands surrounding the area.”
Olive Claridge was also interviewed about her favorite Christmas activity she explained, “Shopping for a new Christmas tree. Then decorating it in a bunch of multicolored ornaments.”
These are only a few ways out of the many ways people spend their winter break. Many of the things one needs for these activities are already at home. So, during the holidays, grab a friend and try some of these activities!
