The U.S 2024 elections took place on Nov. 5. Citizens went to the polls to vote for national and local representatives, as well as various issues relevant to their area. In the presidential election, once the votes and electoral votes were counted, the 47th president of the United States was elected as Republican Donald Trump. His opponent was Democrat Kamala Harris, who recently served from 2020 to 2024 as Vice President while Joe Biden was President. Before this year’s results, Trump served as President from 2016 to 2020.
The final results of the presidential election were announced at midnight of November 5. The race ended with him at 312 electoral votes and Harris at 226. The popular vote for Trump was more than 76.9 million, while Harris had 74.5 million.
Alongside the presidential elections were the congressional elections. Both ended at the same time, although final results took a few days to determine. Both houses were won by Republicans-The Senate at 53 Republicans and 47 Democrats, and the House of Representatives at 220 Republicans and 214 Democrats.
Trump will become inaugurated as President officially on January 20, 2025. Until then, Joe Biden will stay President and Kamala Harris will stay Vice President.
