The original “Beetlejuice” movie was a colossal success from the 80’s that is still popular to this day. It was so popular that it made $77 million in theaters when it first came out. Most of the Rosemont parents likely watched this movie when they were around our age. Now a new generation of kids get to view this new version of the very popular, original movie, called “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which is rated PG 13, came out on September 6, 2024, 36 years later than the original. Winona Ryder starred as Lydia Deetz, one of the main characters, in the original film. This current movie also includes Ryder, still acting as Lydia, but she is 52 years old now and has her own kid, Astrid(Jenna Ortega), who is the same age as Lydia is in the first movie.
Michael Keaton, who starred in the first movie as the very well known, Beetlejuice, also appears in the sequel as well. The new Beetlejuice is a lot like the old movie. It stars some of the same characters who are just a bit older. Unfortunately, they are missing Barbara and Adam, who were very big characters in the first movie, so it was disappointing that they weren’t a part of the new one.
The movie starts off with there being a new conflict in the afterlife that is coming after Beetlejuice. There is also another conflict in the normal world that is trying to sacrifice Astrid’s soul for their own benefit. So it’s up to Lydia to save her daughter and get rid of Beetlejuice for good.
Viewers can really appreciate how “scary” this movie is if they enjoy scary movies, especially if they were disappointed with the lack of scares the original movie had to offer.
Beetlejuice is such a classic story, that even though the second movie is still exceptional, Beetlejuice is just one of those movies that are so good that no one should mess with them. It was very brave to try and make a sequel to such a classic. Everyone should watch this new movie, because the original is quite old and people might not appreciate the level of greatness the movie provides.
This movie should not be viewed by anyone under 12. There are some very violent scenes that could traumatize a younger person. Someone under twelve could watch the original “Beetlejuice,” and then when they’re older they can see the sequel. Comedy horror fans older than 12 would also enjoy this movie.
Watching this sequel will connect viewers even further to the amazing world of Beetlejuice.
