Armenian Heritage Month is in April, and celebrated by 1.2 million Armenians in the U.S. every year. April is also the remembrance month of the Armenian Genocide, where 1.5 million innocent Armenians were massacred and deported from their homes.
A war occurred in 1915 between Armenia and Turkey. During the war, Armenia lost a lot of land to Turkey, a Middle-Eastern country located right next to Armenia. In the early 1920s, when the war and genocide finally ended, between 600,000 – 1.5 million people were injured or enslaved by the Turkish, and many lost their lives.
Just when the tension was starting to cool down with Turkey and Armenia in 2020, another war broke out between Armenia and Turkey once again, taking more land from Armenia. There were many protests and marches, and it was a very hard time for the people of Armenia. On November 10th, 2020 there was a ceasefire agreement between Armenia and Turkey resulting in Artsakh being given back to Turkey as part of the agreement.
Every year on April 24th, Armenians go on a march around LA to celebrate the remembrance of the lives that were lost in these tragic events. At Rosemont, Wednesday, April 24 is a holiday to remember the tragic events that happened.
