The Nightmare Before Christmas came out on October 13, 1993, written and co-produced by Tim Burton, a man with a history of spooky movies such as Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and the Corpse Bride. Since then, The Nightmare Before Christmas has become a beloved Halloween and Christmas movie for the whole family. It is streaming on Disney Plus.
The movie takes place in a world called Halloweentown, a land of spooky, but friendly, creatures. One of them includes Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon), the town’s beloved Pumpkin King, as he struggles with the repetitive world of Halloween, hoping for something new. When he stumbles upon a circle of doors in the forest and discovers Christmas Town, full of happiness and warmth, all of his problems seem to be solved. Halloweentown is thrust into a chaotic and crazy adventure as Jack tries to kidnap Santa Claus and replace him for Christmas night. But going from spooky to merry isn’t as easy as it seems, and things are bound to go wrong. Jack will have to discover who he is to set things right.
It is no wonder this movie has stayed a holiday favorite for so long, with fun and catchy songs by Danny Elfman, and Disney fan-favorite characters such as the shy and caring Sally (Catherine O’Hara) and the evil Oogie Boogie (Glenn Shadix). Tim Burton’s spooky characters and ideas mix perfectly with the family-friendly movie, and it’s also worth mentioning the amazing job that was done by Henry Selick, the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas and other stop-motion movies such as James and the Giant Peach and Coraline.
If you’re a fan of this Halloween and Christmas movie, you’ll be excited to hear we are approaching The Nightmare Before Christmas‘s 30th anniversary! To celebrate this, on October 27 and 28 at 8:00 PM, and October 29 at 7:00 PM, the Hollywood Bowl is showing The Nightmare Before Christmas in concert, featuring Danny Elfman performing with a live orchestra and special guests. The Hollywood Bowl invites you to come early for fun events like a costume contest, and a trick-or-treat adventure for kids.
The Nightmare Before Christmas will be shown on October 20 in theaters across the United States and Canada. You can also see it in the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood in 4D, a 3D showing with in-theater effects, from October 20 to October 31. You can purchase special items, see props from the movie, and take photos in a photo OP.
Overall, The Nightmare Before Christmas is an amazing family-friendly, and spooky movie, and to be able to celebrate its 30th anniversary with these events would be an amazing opportunity.
