Rainbow Gems
This is Andrew Yum and Nathan Swanson reporters from the Spartan Scroll. We are here to inform Rosemont Middle School about what really happens in the rainbow gems club. You may know the rainbow gems club by their presentation at the clubs assembled, or you yourself might be a member. The rainbow gems are for everyone: a kid wanting to eat lunch in an air-conditioned room or a person wanting to learn about LGBTQ+. This club is for everyone to feel comfortable and have a good time.
The rainbow gems club is fantastic and we had a blast hanging out with everybody and eating snacks that they kindly gave us. We felt comfortable and appreciated and everybody was so kind and nice. Right when we entered we were greeted by students handing out snacks. We sat in the back of the class eating our snacks when we decided to interview some of the students there (all students who consented to be interviewed were granted anonymity). We asked what experiences have you had as a member of the LGBTQ community they responded “Honestly not too much I’m trying to… I’m not that social, I don’t talk to too many people, I don’t know, I feel like LGBTQ for me is more of something I do to try to figure out who I am as a person unless it has to do with other people so I use those labels to figure out who I am as a person.” Then, we asked well, do you support the LGBTQ community? They replied “Yes, I am also an ally and I support every label and everyone who identifies themselves as LGBTQ” Finally, we asked, what do you do in the Rainbow Gems club? They replied with: “We’ve done some games and stuff like we’ve looked at some videos, we’ve listened to music, but yeah, that’s about it, we did take a survey about what we’re gonna do, so we are expecting to do more hands-on activities in the future.”
All in all, we would give this club a 10 out of 10. I am excited to see what they do next and the “hands-on activities” they do in the future. It is going to be exciting to see what they do in the future. Thank you for your time and if you can, stop by and eat lunch with the wonderful people in the Rainbow Gems.
