Teacher Profile: Ms. Chu

Who is Ms. Chu? Ms. Chu is a new teacher at Rosemont. She has worked as a music teacher for 6 years before. She has enjoyed music since she was four years old. She decided to take music as a career because both her parents were musicians so she felt like it was natural for her to do music too. She started playing the piano at the young age of four with her mother’s help. She learned how to play the clarinet in third grade. Her main instrument is still playing the clarinet. She went to California State University Long Beach.

Ms. Chu was born in Burbank and grew up in Sylmar for the first ten years of her life. Then, she moved to La Mirada and lived there until she was married. Now, she lives in Chinatown. She decided she was going to be a teacher at the end of high school. Ms. Chu has taught students privately before, but she doesn’t currently teach any students. Her main focus when she teaches is how to blend and balance in an orchestra. Ms. Chu hopes the students enjoy her class. She has also brought some new events that Mr. Yonkers, the previous music director, didn’t have. She decided to come to Rosemont because she knew that the music program was really something special. She knew that the whole community was really supportive of the music program. When Ms. Chu plays clarinet, she mainly likes to play classical and jazz music. She prefers teaching string groups because she can see what every player is doing. “Orchestra,…because you can see everything that’s happening. You can’t see what’s going on in peoples mouths for band and choir you can’t see inside” is a quote that she gave for why she thinks teaching orchestra is the easiest for her.
