Overview of Women´s History Month

Womans History Month is a month dedicated to celebrating all the women that worked hard to gain rights or have achieved something major in a society where they weren´t always respected because of their gender. Women’s History Month originated in 1981 as a national celebration after Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28 that requested and authorized the president to declare Women´s History Week to begin on March 7th, 1982. This continued for five years till in 1987 congress passed Pub. L. 100-9, after it was petitioned by the National Women´s History Month project. This turned Women´s History Week into Women´s History Month. Congress continued to pass resolutions and authorizations to the President to proclaim March as Women´s History Month. The annual proclamations making Women’s History Month the month of March made by the president since 1995 have allowed people to reflect on the amazing women that helped us shape our world and didn´t let gender inequality stop them.
