The first spirit assembly was on September twenty-seventh, but even in almost an hour, there were quite a few activities. The seventh and eighth-grade presidents chanted, the cheerleaders did incredible routines, and ASB tallied points. These activities included two games, Human Battleship and Balloon Pop, one before the cheer and the other after.
The first chance to win spirit points was about whoever sat down first, and when ASB told both grades to sit down, eighth graders won the five spirit points. Then Mrs. Khatchetourian asked the seventh and eighth graders to stand up if they were wearing the color of their grade (blue for seventh graders, white for eighth graders). Eighth graders were showing more school spirit in terms of wearing their colors, so they won again.
The first game was Human Battleship, where the contestants throw a water balloon over a barrier, and whoever’s team hits the other team’s “ships” or pieces of cardboard, wins. Two people in seventh grade were left, and with a final hit to the eighth grader, they were victorious.
Then the eighth and seventh grade presidents announced each grade’s chants to raise the spirit of the crowd for the final game. Even though the eighth graders were quite excited with their chants, the seventh graders were once again the winners with their loud chanting.
The final game was balloon pop, a game where the contestants would be on a team and they would try to pop the balloons tied to the ankles of the other team. The crowd cheered for their grade when they saw the balloons of the opposing team pop and the colored chalk bursting out. At the end of the game, there were two seventh graders and one eighth grader. Because the game was timed, the seventh graders eventually won, since they had more people left on their side than the eighth graders.
Since the seventh graders won both games and chanted the loudest, they won with 15 points. Eighth graders, on the other hand, only won eight points. One seventh grader, Sydney Roberts said, ”I felt really good when seventh grade won – I celebrated with my world history class afterward.” Seventh and eighth graders both enjoyed the first spirit assembly, and there are still many more to come.
