On Thursday, Oct. 10, Rosemont’s Girls Soccer team crushed Wilson at home on the Upper Field. Rosemont scored five goals and shut out Wilson, allowing them to score none.
Parents and students poured into the stands, and kickoff was delayed by about 15 minutes due to Wilson being late.
Immediately after kickoff, Rosemont began to attack and had multiple shots. At the same time, Wilson was able to get a few shots in, but they were dealt with by Rosmeont’s goalkeeper, Kate Walter. These were the few shots that Wilson was able to take during the duration of the game.
Rosemont’s first goal came in the 10th minute, when eighth grader Makenzie Ulfeldt crossed the ball across the box into the feet of eighth grader Kiera Yale, who finished the shot and scored Rosemont’s first goal of many. Two minutes later, in the 12th minute, Rosemont scored again, when seventh grader Amelia Mahli ran past the Wilson defenders to receive a pass, which she shot past the goalkeeper and into the corner.
For the next few minutes, the score remained the same, but Rosemont’s attack continued to break through, and Jocelyn Yu scored two goals, in the 19th and 28th minutes. Her first goal was a shot outside of the box that sailed over the goalkeeper and into the close side of the goal, top corner. Soon after, the Spartans had a corner, and Jocelyn headed the ball in, giving her a brace.
The score at halftime was 4-0, in favor of Rosemont.
The second half had fewer goals than the first half, but Rosemont still had plenty of opportunities to score. The last goal came in the 45th minute by Anais Bedikian, also off a corner. None of the Wilson defenders were able to clear the ball out of the box before Anais volleyed the ball past the goalkeeper.
The score at fulltime was 5-0, in favor of Rosemont. This was their third win of the season.
During the first half, the Spartans did an excellent job holding the Wilson offense, and the ball rarely entered their third of the field. Rosemont also did a great job with passing and shooting, as shown by their high score. The second half saw more opportunities for Wilson, but the Knights were unable to score any goals. Rosemont’s offense continued to do well. Overall, this was a well-rounded performance for the Spartans, and every part of the team did their job. Their next game is away at Toll, and with only three games left against teams that they have already beaten by four or more goals, Rosemont’s girls soccer team may be headed in the direction of another undefeated season.
